Mr. Eugene "Cy" Fritz
In 1962, Mr. Eugene “Cy” Fritz implemented Schuylkill Valley’s wrestling program. He led the 1966 team to the District III Sectional Championship and ended the season by tying for the County Wrestling Championship. He coached three Section II Track Championships, two individual District III Champions and one PIAA State Champion.
During his collegiate coaching career, Mr. Fritz coached track and cross country at Millersville University. He won a PSAC Championship, two IC4A College Division Cross Country Championships, and a Division II NCAA National Championship. He also coached eight Cross Country All-Americans and two Track & Field All-Americans.
Some of Mr. Fritz’s accolades include being named Division II CrossCountry Coach of the Year in 1981, and being elected to the Millersville University Athlete Hall of Fame and the PA Athletic Hall of Fame, Susquehanna Chapter. Additionally, he served as President of the Division II Cross Country Coaches Association and as Director of Campus Recreation at Millersville University for 27 years and as Associate Athletic Director for more than 12 years.
Mr. Fritz’s service has not been limited to sports. He has participated in many community organizations, including Manor Township’s Parks and Recreation Board, Rotary Club of Lancaster South, Willow Valley’s Educational Scholarship Committee, Beagle Club federations, and church council. Mr. Fritz was elected Northeast Regional Campus Recreation Director; President of the Lancaster County Chapter of Health, Physical Education and Recreation Association; and served two terms as Vice President of Recreation for the PA Association of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
